What Is Mallow?
Common mallow is a pretty and fascinating flower. It adds a subtle, refined touch to all kinds of dishes, from savoury sauces and marinades to desserts and sweet treats. It is also used to make herbal teas.
How to Use Mallow
- Infusion: The most common way to enjoy it. Add about 1 tablespoon of dried mallow flowers to a cup of hot water, steep for 5 to 10 minutes, then strain and enjoy. This infusion is often used to soothe the throat and support the respiratory system.
- Decoction: For a more concentrated drink, boil the mallow flowers in water for 10 to 15 minutes, then strain and drink. This draws out more of the mucilage, which is soothing for the mucous membranes.
- In herbal tea blends: Add the dried flowers to other herbs like chamomile, mint or lavender to enrich the flavour and benefits of your blends.
