What Is Tamarack?

Tamarack, also known as eastern larch, is the only conifer in Quebec that sheds its needles in the fall. Rich in vitamin C, its small, soft needles are a favourite for herbal tea. Its young shoots were once eaten as emergency food in the forest.

How to Use Tamarack

Add it to your infusions for a foresty, invigorating touch. It pairs well with other northern plants like balsam fir or wild mint. In cooking, the needles can flavour broths, marinades or desserts. Traditionally, tamarack was also used in poultices or steam baths to soothe the skin and clear the airways.

Its Natural Habitat

Tamarack grows all the way to Canada's far north, adapting well to many types of terrain and soil as long as it gets full sun. In good conditions it can grow very quickly, reaching maturity at around twenty years. By comparison, spruce and fir only mature after about sixty years.

Sizes: 9 g, 500 g and 1 kg bulk bags.
